Q&A

Q: WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

A: Eyelash Extensions are made from a synthetic material, created to imitate natural lashes. They come in a variety of colors, lengths, widths + curls. This means we are able to create a customized look that is appropriate for your natural lashes - while accomplishing your eyelash goals. Each extension (no matter which style you choose) will be individually placed on a properly isolated natural eyelash, ensuring your lashes continue to shed with your natural lash cycle. Extensions are adhered to your natural eyelashes only, and not to the skin; so keeping your natural lashes strong + healthy is DLS’s #1 objective.

Q: ARE LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGING TO MY REAL LASHES?

A: When done properly, no! Proper separation of each natural lash, using appropriate weight lashes, and never over-extending the natural lash, are all factors that go into making sure your lash extensions never hurt you or cause damage. Going to an artist that is educated and takes care in each of those factors, can allow you to have lashes continuously for years.

ARE LASH EXTENSIONS FOR ME?

A:Why extensions? Are you a busy entrepreneur or maybe traveling a lot or a stay at home mom that has her hands full? tired of waking up an hour before to get your makeup just right before heading out of the house.. well then these are for for you! Extensions cut down makeup time by 20 minutes!

WHATS THE PROCESS LIKE?

A:The process is comfortable and relaxing. First I welcome you and go over the goal you have to make sure I customize a set you’re happy with. The table is comfortable and I provide a blanket if you want to snooze. Your eyes are closed for the duration of the service and I apply an extension on each individual lash. The process can take up to 2 hours for a full set and maintenance is roughly an hour fifteen to hour and half. I often have clients take this time for themselves because I know how busy life can be or we can catch up and chat! The experience is about you!

Q: HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

A: The average time between fills is 2-3 weeks, and you should have around half of your extensions left at your fill appointment.

Retention is affected by how well you follow aftercare as well as your natural growth cycle. The average person loses 2-5 natural lashes a day, so fills are necessary to replace the extensions that shed along with them. Grown out extensions that have not shed yet are also removed and replaced at fill appointments to prevent any excess strain, drooping, and twisting.

Q: WHICH SET IS RIGHT FOR ME?

A: Please take a look at the Services page to learn more about each lash set and see what feels right for you and your lifestyle/preference!

Keep in mind, the amount and length of your natural lashes will affect how each set turns out. If you have a sparse lash line (not a lot of lashes) then volume may be your best option to create a darker lash line.

Hybrid is a great option if you can't decide between classic or volume, or you know you want something in between that's great for daily wear.

If you just want to replace the need for mascara, classic is right up your alley.

HOW DO I TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IRRITATION OR AN ALLERGIC REACTION?

A-Lash extension users can become allergic to lash extensions over time as their body can no longer process the chemicals from the main ingredient in lash adhesive, Cyanoacrylate. The first sign of an allergic reaction is swelling, itchiness, or discharge from the eye. The lash extensions must be removed and it is recommended for clients to discontinue the use of lash extensions and try more natural alternatives like a lash lift. Irritation can be mistaken for an allergic reaction. Redness, burning, and soreness is common due to the fumes of the glue. Irritation should usually subside within 72 hours. Some will experience irritation or an allergic reaction their first time, some will never experience it until a few months in, and some will never experience it at all. It's important to let your lash artist know so they troubleshoot.

HOW DO I WASH MY LASH EXTENSIONS?

A-I have everything you need to properly take care of your extensions. I will begin your appointment by showing you what I use to cleanse and even give you a complimentary lash bath and cleansing brush. Lash cleansers and other aftercare products are available for purchase in my studio.

Massage your lash line with a lash safe cleanser, and clean fluffy brush. Remove any makeup with an oil-free remover prior to cleansing. Go in downwards motions and massage the lash line with the brush for 30 seconds each eye. Rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry with Kleenex or paper towels (Never towels, they will snag) and brush when they are dry ONLY.

Q: HOW DO YOU CUSTOMIZE THE LASHES FOR EACH PERSON?

ALength is customized based on how long your natural lashes are, as well how long or short of an extension would flatter your eye shape and size.

Curl is how tight the curl of the extensions is. Curlier lash extensions give straight natural lashes a lift, and are more visible for more of an open-eyed "pop". Less curly extensions show a bit less and give a more natural look.

Shape is entirely customized to each client. Adding longer lashes on the outer corner creates a "cat-eye" effect and can widen the eye and give a sexy look. Adding longer lashes in the center will create more of an "open-eye" look and give a natural, awake effect. Shape is determined by me in order to ensure it flatters your face and eye shape best, to enhance your natural beauty and features.

Texture can be adjusted based on preference. This is how "neat" the lash extensions look, or how "messy" and "spiky". Texture can range from a neat dense line, to bold spikes that a resemble a strip-lash, or anything in between.
